The medium to full-bodied 1999 Clos St.-Denis has unbelievable intensity to its sweet, plummy, black fruit, asphalt, and licorice aromas and flavors. This is a dense, powerful, and thick wine that has a foursquare, firm, sturdy, tannic backbone. If the fruit ultimately overcomes its tannins, this wine will be outstanding and potentially exceptional, yet there is cause for concern that it may remain hard and rugged. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2015?
