The meritage white and red from Knight's Valley are now called Alluvium. The proprietary red is successful in all three vintages - 1993, 1994, and 1995. From a blend of 75%-80% Merlot, 15%-17% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3%-5% Cabernet France, there are approximately 10,000 cases produced each year. It is aged in small French oak casks, of which 30% are new. The 1993 Alluvium's dark ruby/purple color is followed by a sweet, jammy nose of smoke, licorice, black-cherries, and cassis, along with underlying mocha nuances. The wine exhibits terrific fruit, a soft, expansive velvety texture, and a surprising degree of succulence. It is another outstanding red wine from the underrated 1993 vintage. It should drink well for 10-15+ years. Texturally, these wines tend to be round, supple, and seductive, no doubt because of the 75%-80% Merlot used in the blend.(release date, 1/97)This exceptionally well-run winery continues its impressive display of high quality wines in all price ranges and varietal categories.Tel.
