This wine has matured all too quickly. Of course, it was made during a period when the raw materials were excellent, but the proprietor was excessively fining and filtering the wine. (Both procedures were eliminated in the late eighties.) The 1983 is medium ruby with some amber at the edge, a weedy, cassis, oaky nose, and soft, loosely knit, nearly flabby flavors. The tannins have melted away, and this wine requires immediate consumption. Anticipated maturity: Now-may be in decline. Last tasted, 1/89.
