Raquillet's 2008 Mercurey Les Naugues revels in deep tiny, dark cherry and wild plum fruit, with hints of game and plum pit adding interest. While both bright and firmly underlain by tannin, this is expansive in flavor and far from spare. Chewy tartness of fruit skin and hints of salt and chalk add to a finishing sense of invigoration, though with a certain surplus of tannin. I miss the mineral savor of this year's Les Vasees or Les Puillets, though it should be born in mind that his Naugues is always the most structured and usually the most recalcitrant of Raquillet's bottlings. It will drink well for at least 6-8 years.
