The 2007 Chiaranda is 50% Chardonnay and 50% Ansonica aged partly in French oak. It is a more ambitious wine than the Anthilia, with a more overt, ripe expression of fruit and richer body. Sadly the Chiaranda comes across as excessively heavy, with little varietal character or freshness. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2012.
This is a beautiful set of wines from Donnafugata, one of Sicily’s leading producers.
