The 2014 Calados del Puntido is a new entry-level red from the Eguren family in the Rioja Alavesa. It's a single-vineyard Tempranillo from a slope at 600 meters in altitude. It matured in French casks for 16 months. They first produced this wine in 2012, as the vineyard is quite large and only some of the grapes are used for the El Puntido, so they thought they could produce a second wine, in the Bordeaux sense. It's clean with good ripeness, keeping the essence of El Puntido with some iodine undertones and a lively palate with plush tannins and a velvety texture. They use the barrels from the élevage of El Puntido for this second wine, so it certainly has common characteristics. 20,000 bottles produced.
