The brilliant 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Vin de Felibre includes a whopping 80% Mourvedre in the blend (the rest is Grenache and other varietals). Aged in a combination of foudres and small new oak barrels, it is a beautiful example of Mourvedre, with none of the rustic tannins or earthy, mushroom-like character found in many Mourvedres. This example exhibits lovely blueberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with notes of camphor, flowers, garrigue, and pepper. Dense, superbly concentrated, rich, full-bodied, and long, this is a wine to forget for 2-3 years, and drink over the following two decades. One of the most morsellated of all the Chateauneuf du Pape domaines (60+ parcels of vines spread out in every sector of the appellation), this is undoubtedly a very challenging estate to manage. The wine quality is excellent as evidenced by their strongest vintage to date, 2007. Only two 2008s were made.Various American importers, including Rhone Valley Importing, Wytheville, VA; tel.
