Despite coaxing, I could not eke out much in the way of aromatics on the 2014 Mercurey 1Er Cru Champs Martin. It appeared to have shut down the shutters. The palate offers chunky red fruit on the entry: cranberry and pomegranate notes, good acidity, plenty of freshness with a dash of white pepper on the finish. Once the bouquet opens, this should drink well for 3-5 years.
