The first vintage in the turnaround in quality of Clinet, the 1985 has a smoky, earthy nose intermixed with black cherry, currant, plum, and a hint of prune. Fully mature on the palate, with sweet tannin, excellent ripeness, and broad, fleshy, almost herbaceous flavors, this low-acid, very ripe style of Clinet needs to be drunk up. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 6/02.
