The 2010 Finca Villacreces is quite aromatic and attractive on the nose. It’s a blend of 86% Tempranillo, 10% Cabernet and 4% Merlot aged for 14 months in French oak barrels. It smells of violets, morello cherries, and exotic spices, with touches of graphite and tar. The palate is full-bodied. It’s a big-sized red with everything in proportion, plenty of fruit, tannins and enough acidity, ending slightly warm. This has the stuffing to age and develop in bottle. Drink 2015-2020.
Finca Villacreces, one of the pioneers of the new Ribera del Duero, was purchased in 2003 by the Grupo Artevino, also owner of Bodegas Izadi and Orben (Rioja), and Vetus (Toro). The wines are concentrated and well-oaked, quite end of the 1990s-style.
