The backward, floral-scented 2001 Chassagne-Montrachet Champs-Gain displays excellent flesh and depth in its liquid mineral-laced personality. This exceptionally long wine appears to be holding itself in reserve. Projected maturity: 2005-2010.
To quote the ever-calm Michel Niellon, a man of few words, "There were no problems in 2001, I like the vintage." Having tasted his wines, I can see why.
