This proved to be an uninspiring group of wines. I should note, however, that barrel samples of the 1992s revealed more character, so perhaps Austin Cellars is turning over a new leaf. The red wines range from a correct, spicy, jammy 1991 Pinot Noir-Reserve, to an even more jammy, cassis-scented, ripe, unctuous, thick, one-dimensional 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon-Perry's Reserve. The 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon-Mille Delices offers more chocolate notes in its bouquet, as well as intense vegetal elements to go along with its spicy, black-cherry fruitiness. Both Cabernets are made in a fat, unstructured, over-ripe style that I found clumsy. Tel. (805) 688-9665
