Even better is the 2009 Cairanne Clos de la Brussiere from the Massif d’Uchaux, the newest Cotes du Rhone-Villages appellation. A dark ruby/purple color is followed by deliciously ripe fruit in this seriously stacked and packed effort. Revealing lots of kirsch liqueur, loamy soil, garrigue and lavender notes, this full-bodied, richly fruity, pure, well-balanced 2009 should drink well for 4-5 years. The 2008 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Cairanne Clos de la Brussiere Massif d’Uchaux, a blend of two-thirds Grenache and the rest mostly Mourvedre with some Carignan included, is very good. Plenty of licorice, garrigue, black cherry, and loamy soil notes emerge from this elegant, medium-bodied, richly fruity wine. It will not be as long-lived as the 2007, and is best consumed over the next 2-3 years. Domaine Boisson, which produced some outstanding bargains in 2007, has done exceptionally well in 2008, a much more difficult vintage.
