The 2015 Gevrey Chambertin Clos des Chezeaux came from barrel, matured in 30% new oak with 50% whole bunch. It has a transparent and delineated bouquet: a veneer of blackberry and raspberry fruit but clearly visible underneath lies enticing granitic and wet limestone scents. The palate is fresh and vibrant with crisp acidity, plenty of crunchy blackcurrant and raspberry fruit, and a silver bead of acidity. There is an abiding sense of symmetry conveyed by this Gevrey Chambertin and it reeks of elegance on the finish without compromising an iota of its power. Excellent.

A notably floral nose is comprised by notes of spice, red currant, earth and a touch of the sauvage. I very much like the intensity and sleek mouth feel of the vibrant and again, tautly muscular flavors that possess a lovely sense of freshness on the lingering and balanced finale. Note that this will require at least a few years of cellar time first. Recommended.

The 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos des Chezeaux, which I tasted from three-year-old barrel, has a seductive bouquet -- the 40% whole bunch very discrete, lending real freshness and vitality. The palate is very well balanced with a touch of orange peel on the entry and a keen line of acidity; it is brisk and focused with a gentle uplift of citrus fruit on the finish. This is a sophisticated, just delicious Gevrey-Chambertin from winemaker Amélie Berthaut.

There is enough reduction to mask the fruit but not so much as to hide the soft floral scents. There is excellent intensity and tension to the mineral-driven and quite powerful middle weight flavors that possess outstanding depth and length for a villages level wine. Provided you're prepared to age this for at least 8 to 10 years, it's definitely worth adding to your cellar.
