I missed getting this review into the first part of the Southern Rhone coverage, where this estate's Chateauneuf du Pape and other 2011s were covered. Looking at the latest release here, the 2012 Cotes du Rhone Villages Cesar is 100% Grenache that was brought up all in oak tronconique casks. It’s a brilliant wine that has some sweet oak in its creamy licorice, black raspberry, cassis and vanilla bean-styled bouquet. This all flows nicely to a medium to full-bodied, sexy and fruit-loaded 2012 that has good mid-palate concentration, sweet tannin and a great finish. It’s already hard to resist and I see no need to delay gratification either. Nevertheless, a drink window out to 2020 seems a safe bet.
