A sustainably made wine, the Donnafugata 2018 Sicilia Contessa Entellina Chiarandà shows some lightly toasted notes with nutty almond and pistachio, but the wine is also redolent of sweet apricot and candied orange peel. It is aged in oak, and a small part goes into cement. To the palate, the wine delivers a silky, medium-weight approach, but there is enough textural richness and sunny Sicilian concentration to approach full-bodied intensity. This is a 40,000-bottle production.

The Donnafugata 2017 Sicilia Contessa Entellina Chiarandà offers very Sicilian aromas of candied fruit, orange peel and sweet apricot. There are creamy, sweet ricotta notes as well, with hints of cinnamon and fried cannoli crust. The hot vintage comes through in the heavy, waxy nature of this full-bodied white. Production is 40,000 bottles.

Beautifully smooth and supple, the 2016 Sicilia Contessa Entellina Chiarandà was born in a slightly cooler vintage and shows a great sense of linearity and precision as a result. This Sicilian Chardonnay is fermented in steel, and only half of the total mass eventually goes into barrique and tonneaux for a brief six months of aging. The wine shows good depth and volume with orchard fruit and sweet nectarine. Some 30,000 bottles were made.

A Sicilian Chardonnay, the 2015 Sicilia Contessa Entellina Chiarandà offers gorgeous intensity and richness. The team at Donnafugata has done a great job in executing a more elegant and streamlined wine in a hot vintage. The bouquet is robust and round but never heavy or sticky. Ripe fruit and peach segue to vanilla cream and lemon mousse. The finish is rich, textured and soft.

The 2013 Contessa Entellina Chiarandà is very true to the variety. This pure expression of Chardonnay delivers Sicilian tones of candied orange peel, marzipan, toasted pistachio and honeydew melon. It offers impressive balance between those ripe fruit aromas and candied fruit flavors. That middle ground is what gives this medium-bodied wine its versatility and charm. Only 6,000 bottles are made.
