The direction being staked out in cask by the Feilers’ 2004 Ruster Ausbruch Welschriesling – Weissburgunder is clear enough. Apple blossom, pineapple, and candied lemon aromas lean into a palate that is thick and rich, with flavors of marzipan and subtly caramelized apple, but also satisfyingly juicy, with a tingling, pleasantly stinging, invigorating note of fresh pineapple. The finish adds a fascinating, faintly bitter note of holly berry to the continued dynamic of caramelized and glazed pit fruits pitted against fresh tropicals.
