The Francesco Rinaldi & Figli 2016 Barolo shows sweet and ripe fruit with distant aromas of wild strawberry, forest berry and a hint of dried prune. The standard blending formula for this classic Barolo sees fruit from six vineyard parcels, including some from the celebrated Cannubi cru that is most strongly identified with this estate. This vintage awards some added softness and fruitiness that goes a long way to create a long and silky mouthfeel.

This vintage shows less aromatic intensity and a thinner mouthfeel with dry, dusty tannins. The 2014 Barolo is a mid-weight wine with a pretty bouquet that is characterized by smoke, tar, forest floor and dark cola. The main thing missing is the intensity of the primary fruit that comes in short supply in this difficult vintage. The finish is very dry and astringent. Some 20,000 bottles were made. The wine ages in large oak casks for three years.

When tasted upon release, the 2011 Barolo showed a tight core of black fruit, tar, smoke and spice. From the very beginning, this wine needed a little extra time to unwind and open. It offers robust fruit intensity, thanks to the warmth of the 2011 growing season.
