The 2010 Gewurztaminer Kolbenhof is striking. Passion fruit, exotic spices and white flowers are some of the many notes that flow from the glass. The 2010 is restrained, elegant and simply impeccable from start to finish. There is plenty of body, but no weight whatsoever. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. I was very impressed with the wines I tasted from Hofstatter and proprietor Martin Foradori this year. The 2009 Gewurztraminer Kolbenhof shows wonderful depth and polish in its juicy, tropical fruit and well-articulated bouquet. The wine blossoms on the palate, with endless layers of fruit that lead to the energetic, clean finish. The Kolbenhof is often a standout, as it is again in 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2019. The 2008 Gewurztraminer Kolbenhof is one of the richer, more expansive Gewurztraminers readers are likely to come across in Alto Adige. Expressive layers of mango, passion fruit, ginger, flowers and spices jump out of the glass as this harmonious, impeccable wine shows its pedigree. The finish is long, pure and refined. The 2007 Gewurztraminer Kolbenhof is gorgeous. The wine reveals layer after layer of lime peel, pears, spices and passion fruit. This medium-bodied Gewurztraminer possesses enough acidity and freshness to continue to drink well for another decade or so, although I would prefer to enjoy it on the young side. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2012. Once again, I left my tasting of the Hofst?tter line-up feeling that the estate could be more consistent across the board, especially with their entry-level wines.
