The 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corte Manara is straightforward and not as profound as some of its peers. The fruit especially shows less depth, but it does provide the requisite dosage of solid dried plum, dried cherry and prune. The blend is 70% Corvina, 20% Rondinella and 10% Molinara, which undergoes 100 days of appassimento. With 5.5 grams per liter of residual sugar and 16% alcohol, you get the power and the natural sweetness of Amarone in full force, and you might want to temper that power with a big plate of pasta and ragù. The wine ages in large oak casks of Slavonian oak for 24 months. Production stands at 14,000 bottles.
