Very perfumed with dried flowers and sliced strawberries with some meat on the nose. Medium body. Fresh and linear. Tight at the end. Shows finesse. Drink in two or three years.

The Michele Chiarlo 2019 Barolo Cannubi is a fleshed-out expression of Nebbiolo with a medium build and good structure. There is a dusty mineral tone on the bouquet that transitions to crushed rose, cassis, blood orange and violet. Enjoying excellent exposures on steep slopes, Cannubi is always a classic wine, but it is especially so in this balanced vintage.

Intense, with macerated cherry and berry fruit riding a wave of vibrant acidity, while sinewy tannins underline everything. Delivers eucalyptus, vanilla and mineral accents, which add depth as this powers through the succulent finish. The 2018 Barolo Cannubi is my favorite bottle in the group of three Barolos presented by Michele Chiarlo. I love the generous layering and depth of the wine, with much of that momentum coming from very clean and etched aromas of redcurrant, blue flower, licorice and crushed stone. Firm tannins give the wine linearity and an elegant backbone.
