The 2008 Lagrein is particularly notable this year. This bold, racy red flows onto the palate in a refined expression of dark red fruit that offers plenty of varietal notes while avoiding some of the more rustic qualities that can be present in entry-level Lagreins. The wine possesses gorgeous length and a refined, elegant finish, making it an excellent starting point for readers who want to explore the qualities of Alto Adige’s most distinctive red grape. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2013. Muri-Gries, a monastery in Alto Adige, is an excellent source for the wines of this gorgeous, breathtaking region.
