Grapefruit, fresh cranberries and mineral on the nose. Fresh and almost tangy on the palate with zesty citrus and a firm backbone of tannins. Nicely grippy and structured. Drink in a year or two.

This is the entry-level red from one of the most exciting wineries on the slopes of Mount Etna. The Pietradolce 2021 Etna Rosso shows cassis, campfire ash and wild rose. This lean-bodied wine is fresh and tart, perfect for pork roast with potatoes. Production is 25,000 bottles.

The entry-level 2019 Etna Rosso is light and informal with lots of raspberry, wild cherry and rose. The wine is delicate and fine but also shows volcanic and Etna character, but it's made in an immediate and accessible manner. Fruit is harvested from a nine-hectare site located at 800 meters above sea level, and some 25,000 bottles were produced. Winemaking sees stainless steel and oak botte.

Simple and fine, the 2017 Etna Rosso by Pietradolce shows an elegant but approachable personality. You get small-berry aromas with smoke, ash and crushed stone. The mouthfeel is thin and compact, but those small-berry flavors do last. I'd suggest a pairing with thin crust pizza or easy pasta dishes at home. This is a pure expression of Nerello Mascalese aged in large oak casks for three months. Some 15,000 bottles were made.

The 2015 Etna Rosso is Pietradolce's base wine made with fruit from various vineyard sites. It could be mistaken for a rosé wine. Its shows a pale ruby color and brilliant luminosity. The wine opens to a very pretty bouquet with bright berry and floral highlights. This is an attractive and easy-drinking wine that would pair with seafood, white meat or pork roast. The finish is clean and sharp. This is a great base wine for informal drinking occasions that demand something more powerful than a rosé but more delicate than a red wine.
