Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa bursts from the glass with notes of fresh blackberries, black raspberries and cassis, followed by hints of menthol, tilled soil, pencil lead and bay leaves. The medium to full-bodied palate offers pure black fruit flavors and a lively line, textured with soft tannins and finishing with an invigorating herbal lift.

The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is an attractive wine laced with dark red berries, flowers, spices and crushed flowers. This mid-weight, gracious wine won’t set the world on fire, but it is an excellent choice for informal drinking and restaurants, where it should be enjoyed over the next few years. The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa, Mondavi’s least expensive Cabernet Sauvignon, is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and other grapes. It has a healthy deep ruby/purple color, with a pleasant nose of black fruits intermixed with hints of charcoal and spice, delicious, sweet fruit, medium body, and nice suppleness and flesh. Given that discounters will probably price this wine in the low twenties, this could be an outstanding bargain. It is hard to find a better value than the outstanding 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (which may even be discounted for under $25 a bottle). This sleeper of the vintage exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color as well as loads of cassis, blackberry, graphite, and cedar notes. Full-bodied, rich, and concentrated with silky tannins and a lush, generous constitution, this beauty is capable of lasting 10-15 years. Slightly superior to the 2005, the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa possesses a dark ruby/purple color as well as a creme de cassis, spice box, and floral-scented bouquet, and a medium to full-bodied finish. A strong effort, it should drink nicely for 12-15 years. Tel. (707) 226-1395
