Named after the nine-hectare vineyard that sources the fruit, the Sartarelli 2020 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore Balciana is a broad and rich expression with an open-knit approach, fleshed-out fruit and a powerful 15.5% alcohol content. Aged in stainless steel only, the wine is made with late harvest fruit (that normally comes off the vines between October and November). This wine is opulent and soft with sweet peach and poached pear. A total of 10,000 bottles were produced.

Though dry and well-cut, this light- to medium-bodied white features an aromatic profile reminiscent of an off-dry Chenin Blanc, showing notes of honeyed apricot, lanolin and a touch of white truffle. A distinctive example, with a lingering finish of zesty ground spice and saline. This wine hits the top of the Verdicchio quality pyramid within the Sartarelli portfolio. The 2016 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore Balciana offers an ample and generous mouthfeel (again, no oak is used, and aging takes place in stainless steel) with creamy fruit flavors that wash smoothly over the palate. Tropical tones and orchard fruits are the protagonists, but there are plenty of smaller aromas of anise, ash and some medicinal herbs to keep your attention. The alcohol content is noticeably more powerful, at 15.5%, and this means the wine could stand up to crab legs dipped in butter sauce. Each year, this estate produces about 15,000 bottles of this wine.

Rich with hints of butterscotch and smoke, this lightly fleshy white frames flavors of baked apple and spice with enough soft acidity for balance. Medium-bodied, with a lingering, creamy finish of toast and citronella. The wine shows good density and weight in terms of mouthfeel and texture. Stone fruit, melon, honey and dried herb emerge from the bouquet in steady pulses.
