The 2006 Pomedes Bianco is a gorgeous, pure white. This cuvee of 65% Pinot Bianco, 25% Friulano and 10% Riesling is initially rather focused, but then blossoms beautifully on the mid-palate with well-articulated white peaches, smoke, licorice, mint and spices. Subtle notes of toasted oak make an appearance but they are nicely woven into the wine’s fabric. This is one of the more interesting wines I tasted from Friuli this year. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2014.
Once again I was impressed with the wines I tasted from Roberto Scubla, a small producer located in the Colli Orientali district of Friuli.
