Aged entirely in American oak (19% new), the 2020 Petite Sirah pairs an interesting mix of garrigue-like notions with mocha and cigar box, plus notes of blueberries, licorice and dark chocolate. It's full-bodied and a bit chewy on the palate but ripe, juicy and long.

Containing fruit sourced from Calistoga (in the north) to Coombsville (in the south), the 2019 Petite Sirah features notes of dusty earth, cedar, black cherry and blackberry, with hints of asphalt and black olive as well. Unlike the other wines at Stags' Leap Winery, it's matured using American oak. It's a full-bodied, round, not overly tannic or extracted version of Petite Sirah, but it still has a bit of structure.

Sourced from Calistoga all the way down to Coombsville, the 2018 Petite Sirah is inky purple-black in color. Vanilla notes—it spends 14 months in 25% new American oak—accent blackberries and blueberries on the nose, while it's full-bodied on the palate, where it's a bit chunky but not unfriendly, with a long, dusty finish.

The 2017 Petite Sirah is composed of 85% Petite Sirah, 6% Syrah, 6% Grenache and 3% mixed Rhone varieties. It was aged 14 months in American oak, 25% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it bursts from the glass with exuberant scents of prunes, baked black cherries and mulberries with hints of candied violets, unsmoked cigars and new leather plus a hint of spice cake. The medium-bodied palate has a firm level of chewy tannins with plenty of freshness to support the bombastic black fruit preserves, finishing long and earthy. 31,647 cases were made.

The 2016 Petite Sirah is made up of 79% Petite Sirah, 8% mixed Rh?ne varieties, 7% Grenache and 6% Syrah, aged for 12 months in 25% new American oak. Very deep purple-black in color, it opens with notes of freshly crushed black cherries and black berries with touches of plum preserves, baking spices and tar. The palate is medium to full-bodied, very firm and grainy with a lively line to lift the peppery black fruit to a long finish. 31,143 cases produced.
