The 2013 Chardonnay Bench Blend looked very strong. This is 100% Chardonnay from Napa, aged 14 months in about one-half new French oak, with just a touch of American wood as well. Elegant poached pear, caramelized citrus and lemon blossom are all present in this ripe, fresh, medium-weight Chardonnay.

The 2010 Chardonnay Bench Blend fleshes out with hints of nectarine, butterscotch, sweet spices and vanilla. The aromas and flavors are quite rich, but the wine retains an attractive, medium-bodied personality. Layers of flavor continue to build to the creamy, inviting finish. More serious and well-endowed, the 2008 Chardonnay Bench Blend offers a beautiful bouquet of crushed rocks, unbuttered popcorn, tangerines and honey. This medium to full-bodied Chardonnay went through full malolactic, but has kept the oak component well-balanced in its overall personality. Enjoy it over the next year. Now owned by the vast Gallo empire, Gallo deserves enormous credit for finally getting these wines back on the track.
