The 1997 Zinfandel Jackass Hill Vineyard is a massive, totally dry wine that came in at 17.5% alcohol, and was bottled unfiltered. Dense and full-bodied, it represents Zinfandel in its most concentrated form. Its singular style, unctuous texture, and fabulously concentrated flavors make for an unforgettable tasting experience. While not for everybody, it is the quintessential powerhouse Zinfandel made from tiny yields, a phenomenal vineyard site, and impeccable winemaking. Its characteristics are intense - jammy black cherries, plums, prunes, dried herbs, licorice, chocolate and coffee. This wine is best drunk in its exuberant youthfulness, but I suspect it will age well beyond a decade.
