Wonderfully detailed scents of pears, lilies, and apples can be found in the nose of the 2003 Meursault Genevrieres (white). This wine is so atypical of the vintage that it confounded me. Fat, rich, dense, and hugely concentrated, it conquers the palate with masses of yellow plums, poached pears, candied apples, honeyed minerals, spices (including cloves and star anise), buttered toast, and creamy hazelnuts. Powerful (yet seductively sultry), it gives the impression of having loads of extract in its deep, mouth-coating character. Superb to drink now, this wine also has a bright future. Projected maturity: now-2018.
