The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape (the Weygandt cuvee) exhibits sweet peppery black cherry and loamy earthy notes with leather, spice box, and Asian soy-like characteristics. The wine is a blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre. It is an opulent, fruity as well as expansive, broodingly backward effort that can be drunk now or over the next 12-14 years. This is serious stuff.
