There are 2,500 cases of this 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon fashioned by winemaker Tony Soter from several sub-appellations (most notably Rutherford, St. Helena, Oakville and Calistoga). A blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc aged in French oak, this beauty reveals aromas of sweet graphite, black currants, coffee and vanillin. Full-bodied with loads of pure red and black fruits, Rutherford dust and loamy soil character, lots of glycerin and a medium to full-bodied finish, it can be enjoyed now or cellared for another decade. Supple and balanced, with a trim band of spicy currant, cedar, anise and sage. Lacks the richness and density of my favorites from this producer, yet achieves balance nonetheless.
