A richer, darker set of aromas and flavors emerges from the 2009 Barbaresco Tulin, but it has the same textural finesse and class of the other wines. Sensual and totally compelling, the Tulin wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth supported by firm yet well-integrated tannins. In my view, the Tulin has the best integration of fruit, acity, tannin and oak. This is another striking wine from Giorgio Pelissero and his team. The Tulin was aged in a combination of cask and barrique. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2029.
Pelissero is without question one of the top-tier estates in Barbaresco. Every wine in this lineup is solid and well worth seeking out. In particular, the 2009 Barbareschi are some of the very finest wines I have ever tasted here. The management of the tannins – such a problem at other estates – was expertly handled. Pelissero’s 2010 Barbareschi had been bottled just before my visit and were too closed down to properly evaluate.
