Chuck McMinn also owns the 16-acre, rock-strewn Aida Vineyard that was first made famous by some of the Larry Turley Zinfandels. Winemaker Philippe Melka says it is one of the few Napa Valley sites that looks like Chateauneuf du Pape. Readers looking for unbelievable wines should check out the Zinfandels and Cabernet Sauvignon, all made in relatively limited quantities. There are just under 400 cases of the 2004 Zinfandel Aida, which is aged 18 months in a combination of American and French oak. Its dark ruby/purple color is followed by an earthy, peppery, spicy nose revealing loads of black currant, cherry, and berry-like fruit. Very Chateauneuf du Pape-like for a California Zinfandel, it is full-bodied, powerful (15+% alcohol), textured, and rich. Drink this beautiful Zin over the next 5-6 years.
