The 2008 Aglianico Concarosso Galluccio is a delicious wine for the money, and one of the best wines under $25 I have tasted this year. A blend of 70% Aglianico and 30% Palagrello Nero from the prestigious Roccamonfina appellation in Campania, the Galluccio offers up a host of juicy dark cherries, grilled herbs, graphite and smoke. This is an incredibly rich, complex Aglianico with tons of character. Although meant to be enjoyed young, I would be tempted to leave a bottle or two in the cellar for a few years to see what happens. Given the richness of the fruit, chances are the wine should age quite nicely, at least for a handful of years. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016.
This small estate is located in the prestigious Terra di Lavoro district on the foothills of the Roccamonfina volcano.
