Burguet's 1987 is less muscular and slightly less concentrated than his profound 1986, but it is supple, ripe, shows excellent spicy, animal-like, berry fruit with a smell of ground beef as well as red and black berries. Burguet has no Premiers Crus or Grands Crus vineyards and is resigned to the fact that he can only produce a Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvee Vieilles Vignes. But what a generic Gevrey-Chambertin! The wine needs a good 1 to 2 years in the bottle, but should last for at least a decade.
