Delicate and well concentrated in its very clear Riesling and slate flavors on the nose, the 2012 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese demonstrates the noblesse of the vineyard that too often seems to sail in the shadow of the adjacent Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Curiously, the wine seems less sweet on the palate than the Sp?tlese, although it contains almost 83 gram of residual sugar. However, this late harvested (November 9), 8.5% alcohol Auslese has such an intensity and complexity, precision, piquancy and a lingering salinity that the unfermented sugar is bitten away.
