Rapet's 1996 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is still almost painfully tightly wound, opening in the glass with aromas of iodine, golden orchard fruit, beeswax and wet stones. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with a searing spine of acidity, chalky structuring extract and a long, penetrating finish, it's at its best after several hours in a decanter.
