Kalin Cellars in California and L'Ecole #41 in Washington state produce America's finest Semillons. L'Ecole #41's 1991 and 1992 Semillons are rich, full-bodied, lavishly-endowed wines with loads of fruit and personality. The 1992 is more solidly built and tighter, but both wines display a honeyed, waxy fruitiness, fleshy, chewy textures, and loads of depth and richness. They would be superb accompaniments with rich fish dishes or poultry, but they would not make good aperitif wines given their bold personalities. Both should last for 4-5 years.
