The Armenier family passionately runs this estate, which is farmed under the strict standards of Bio-Dynamic-organic methods. Domaine de Marcoux's Vieilles Vignes Chateauneuf du Pape can be one of the most spectacular wines of France. Owners of the 1989 or 1990 surely realize they possess veritable treasures. The 1993 and 1994 are potential legends in the making. The 1993 Vieilles Vignes offers an exotic, gingery, cinnamon, jammy, black-cherry-scented nose, and excellent, sweet, rich, late harvest-styled flavors that ooze viscous cherry fruit. This wine may be Chateauneuf du Pape's answer to the famous Pomerol estate, Lafleur. Although not as impressive as the 1989 and 1990, it is thick and rich, but somewhat fragile. Back-tracking, the 1992 Vieilles Vignes, which I praised highly and purchased for my cellar, possesses a spectacular palate, but a bizarre nose that in some bottles comes across as musty, old, damp wood. I am perplexed by the aromatic profile, which I hope "cleans" itself up.
