Daniel Servelle irrefutably made better 1991s than 1990s. Low yields and the fact that the wines are now going into the bottle unfiltered have made a difference. These are wines of unmistakable charm and elegance, yet they are imbued with plenty of rich, sweet fruit. The 1991 Chambolle-Musigny-Derriere la Grange is slightly bigger and denser, with deeper, saturated color, an excellent bouquet of black-cherries, herbs, and spicy, vanillin new oak, and a rich, expansive, long finish. It admirably combines power and finesse.
Servelle's immensely impressive 1991s are the best wines I have tasted from this up and coming domaine. Importer: Louis/Dressner Selections, New York, NY.
