Aged in 30% new oak, the deep ruby colored Chambolle-Musigny Derriere La Grange (the vineyard's name means "behind the barn" in French) reveals a lively, fresh blueberry and cherry-scented nose with intermingled notes of vanilla. This superb wine possesses a silky texture and explodes with flavors of blackberries, red fruits, and touches of underbrush and roasted meats on its exceptionally long finish. Drink this gem between 2000-2009.
Christian Amiot has been responsible for this estate's wines since 1990 and the quality of his wines has progressed admirably with each vintage. As Robert Parker stated in issue # 100 (August, 1995), the wines of the Domaine Amiot-Servelle "go from strength to strength." I was quite taken by the opulent yet structured nature of the graceful, juicy, beautifully ripe and extracted wines reviewed in this segment. Amiot is a star in the making.
