Named after the soil type that is found in the western part of the zone, the 2001 Barolo Tortoniano is also the firm’s entry-level Barolo. It is an accessible, medium-bodied wine that displays a very aromatic, delicate nose, along with bright red fruit on a somewhat compressed, lean frame. It should drink well in a few years and last until age 15. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2016.
