The 2007 The Ditch Digger, a knock-out blend of 37% Grenache, 29% Syrah, 26% Mourvedre, 5% Counoise, and 3% Cinsault, is a complex red wine boasting superb aromatics of pepper, incense, sweet black cherries, plums, and a gamy, meaty character. Medium to full-bodied with excellent fruit purity, a multilayered texture, sweet tannin, and a long finish, it can be consumed now and over the next 3-4 years or longer.
These are four beautiful wines produced from the limestone hillsides of this vineyard just off Vineyard Drive on the west side of Paso Robles. The two whites are both striking examples of what can be achieved with Rhone Valley varietals in California’s Central Coast.
