Sweet pea, rose petal, and bacon fat in the nose of Weinbach’s 2007 Gewurztraminer Reserve Personnelle – like the corresponding Riesling, from younger vines in the Clos des Capucins” – lead to a creamy, faintly soapy, yet satisfyingly juicy palate, suffused with pungent brown spices and black tea-like smokiness. While there is faint warmth, that is not obtrusive, just as the 18 grams of residual sugar are surprisingly discreet. This long-finishing Gewurztraminer should keep well for at least half a dozen years. This year, Domaine Weinbach will receive its official certification as organic and biodynamic growers. The Fallers did well in the difficult 2006 vintage – especially with those Gewurztraminer harvested before botrytis gained the upper hand – and with good reason expressed elation over the vibrancy and refinement that characterizes most of 2007s.Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel.
