The 1999 Andrus Reserve, a proprietary blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, aged in 100% new French oak, boasts an impressive deep ruby/purple color followed by aromas of toast, smoke, and raw wood. Some black currant notes poke through the overlay of toast. The wine is stern, austere, and medium-bodied, with excellent purity, but little generosity or hedonistic appeal. The length builds, and there seems to be more underneath the surface than actually meets the palate. Whether all of this comes together is open to conjecture, but my guess is ... probably not.Tel.
