The lovely 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape blanc, an intriguing blend of 40% Bourboulenc, 40% Clairette and the rest equal parts Roussanne and Grenache, was aged in stainless steel four months prior to bottling. A fresh, lively, perfumed white, it exhibits a heady bouquet of flowers and tropical fruits, and a nicely textured, medium-bodied, crisp style. It is best consumed over the next year.
I’m not sure this estate made any 2008s since they did not present them in 2009 or 2010. From a bio-dynamically certified vineyard, the wines from Berthet-Rayne are clearly on the upswing.
