Ray Signorello, Jr. is making better Cabernet Sauvignons today than he was ten years ago. Nevertheless, his 2001 has turned out to be a very well-made wine offering notes of charcoal, black currants, sweet cherries and flowers as well as more austerity and leanness than are found in recent vintages. The tannins also seem slightly ragged compared to more current wines where Signorello has achieved much better integration of wood, tannin and acidity. The 2001’s final blend was 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc and 11% Merlot from the estate vineyards. Consume it over the next 10-12 years.
