The 1997 The Fergus, a 100% old vine Grenache cuvee, reveals a distinctive minty, kirsch, and black cherry-scented nose that explodes upward from the glass. Hedonistic and full-bodied, it does not possess a great deal of structure, but it does provide waves of jammy fruit. Abundant quantities of pepper, spice, and alcohol (14.5%) are present in the knock-out finish. This example should drink well for 5-6 years.
Tim Adams' red wines are all boldly-styled, fleshy, large-scaled offerings that are best purchased by those who desire plenty of flavor.
Tim Adams continues to provide an impressive array of wine from old, dry-farmed vineyards in the Clare Valley, about 65 miles from Adelaide.
