A strong argument can be made that that the two Shiraz cuvees ("Hanish" and "Heysen") are the top wines from Veritas. This wine, made from 30-year old vines that average 2.5 tons of fruit per acre, tips the scales at a whopping 15.1% alcohol, although you would never know it when tasting this super-concentrated wine. It is a killer Shiraz, with an opaque purple color, peppery, tar, sweet, layered, jammy blackberry fruit, hints of subtle new oak, and a massive, powerful, full-bodied finish that goes on and on. Still youthful, it promises to age easily for 12-15 years. Rolf Binder, who also makes the wines for The Magpie Estate, produces this astonishing, full-flavored, maximum extraction, ultra-ripe wine.
